Garware Plateena Mooring & Towing ropes are manufactured from Dyneema fibre - the world's strongest fibre yarn - at 1/7th to 1/8th the weight of steel wire rope at equivalent breaking strength, reducing winch load, deck equipment stress, and crew fatigue for faster port turnaround and safer towing operations.

Unlike steel wire rope, Plateena floats on water, reducing the risk of propeller fouling and simplifying sub-sea handling. Its low snap-back characteristic gives deck crew a critical safety advantage over nylon and polyester ropes in tension events.

Plateena contains no protruding wire ends or abrasive metal fibres, protecting windlass drums, fairleads, chocks, and deck fittings from damage. High abrasion resistance and optional anti-chaff protection - woven socks, Panama woven covers, and custom sleeves - ensure reliable performance at all chafe points.

This eliminates the associated with steel wire rope mooring lines, simplifies deployment and retrieval in port and offshore environments, and reduces the risk of propeller fouling during mooring approach and departure.

Snap back is the dangerous recoil of a mooring rope when it parts under tension. Nylon and polyester mooring ropes store significant elastic energy and can snap back with lethal force. Plateena's low elongation means it stores far less energy - in a failure event, the snap back is significantly reduced, protecting deck crew in the snap-back danger zone during mooring operations.

Yes. Plateena mooring ropes do not damage windlass drums, fairleads, or chocks - unlike steel wire rope whose protruding wire ends score and damage equipment over time. The rope's lighter weight reduces motor load on the windlass during mooring, and its high abrasion resistance enables long service life on winch drum applications.

Yes. Plateena's combination of high breaking strength, buoyancy, chemical inertness, low elongation, and high TCLL value makes it an excellent choice for FPSO mooring hawsers, platform tethers, and sub-sea mooring line applications. Anti-chaff protection sleeves are available for chafe points and through-fairlead applications in permanent offshore installations.

Plateena 12-strand rope is available from 4mm (circ 0.50 in) to 26mm (circ 3.25 in) with breaking strengths from 2,600 kgf to 60,000 kgf. The 8 & 12 strand rope extends from 28mm (circ 3.5 in) to 96mm (circ 12 in) with breaking strengths up to 6,38,400 kgf. Anti-chaff sleeves and custom lengths are available on order.
